Business Training

Training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relates to specific useful skills. It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at technical colleges and polytechnics. Today it is often referred to as professional development. Physical training is more mechanistic: planned suites of regimes develop specific skills or muscles with a view to peaking at a particular time. A field of training often used in sports is autogenic training. Another type of training is fartlek training which is a flexible training type which can be adapted to suit almost any athlete. Training & Development is the field concerned with workplace learning to improve performance. Such training can be generally categorized as on-the-job or off-the-job. On-the-job describes training that is given in a normal working situation, using the actual tools, equipment, documents or materials that they will use when fully trained.

- The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a professional association and think tank advancing the science of strategic talent management, and IBM, the world's largest information technology and consulting services company, announced today that IBM is a diamond sponsor of HCI's first-ever Talent Management Forum for Government, a leadership event for government human capital and personnel leaders and their teams. IBM is supporting and participating in the HCI event, created exclusively for federal organizations, which will be held in Washington, D.C. on Weds., Sept. 17, 2008. "IBM is an ideal partner for HCI and the Talent Management Forum for Government, an opportunity for federal talent professionals to learn innovative human capital practices they can apply immediately at their organizations," said Allen Zeman, President of HCI Government Solutions. The forum, to be held at Gaylord National Resort Hotel and Convention Center in Prince George's County, Md. on the Potomac River, will bring together human capital professionals who are transforming talent management in their government organizations for a full day of learning and networking, followed by a high-impact, post-forum networking reception. Participants will attend keynote presentations and 90-minute learning sessions that include real-world case studies, practical knowledge and effective strategies. Keynote speakers at the event include Paul Light, NYU Professor of Public Policy, and Congressman James Moran, 8th Congressional District of Virginia. IBM will present a special session titled, "The Future of Talent Management: Assessing Today to Plan for Tomorrow." Moderated by HCI's Allan Schweyer, Executive Director and SVP Research, scheduled presenters and panelists include Dr. Joseph Lannon, Director of the U.S. Army's Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), which won the 2007 Malcolm Baldrige Award for Quality Excellence; David Forman, HCI Chief Learning Officer; and Dr. Joseph King, ARDEC Chief Human Capital Officer. "IBM is proud to be a part of this new, federally focused talent event," said Michael Littlejohn, Vice President of the Public Sector Human Capital Management Practice of IBM. "It will address the innovations and forward-thinking practices that government organizations need to embrace in order to keep pace with growing requirements and future talent needs." HCI's 2008 Talent Management Forum for Government presents an ideal professional development opportunity for Chief Human Capital and Personnel Officers; Directors of HR, Manpower, Personnel and Training, and HR and Program Managers and Analysts.
